Trapani in the distance

We are out side of Trapani about 5 miles.  We unloaded the supply and worked around all day.  I didn’t have time to do much scanting around.  We went to bed early.

Letter home – August 22, 1943

19430822-Lscan-600Dear Mother & Dad;

Things are pretty quiet around here now so I will write you a few lines. How is everyone at home, Okay I hope. I’m fine also. There is a very little to write about as we stay and VF lack most of the time. I went to mass in Tam today. We drove this we drove their bite truck. It was really a beautiful church it had six altars in it. The mass the main altar would fit the main altar would put the altars in our church at home in shame. It was all of marble trimmed in gold. I would have loved two had a picture of it. Yesterday we all went to the beach swimming. I had a lot of fun and the water was swell. I told you before we do nothing but lay around now. I am finally caught up on my letter writing. If you cannot find the crooked stem pipe them for me just send a plain Kaywoodie it will be all right. Goodbye and I love you both.

August 22, 1943 – Sunday

A2P60-1-800I went to mass in Barcellona today and they had a beautiful church. Its hard to explain how beautiful it really was. They had six alters in it. In the afternoon we went down to the rocks in Milazno. We had great fun there. We made us a diving board, and dove in the water. Played cards, listened to the radio and went to bed. We move tomorrow.

Letter home – August 18, 1943

19430818-Lscan-600Dear Mother & Dad;

By now you should have read all of the news about Sicily. The deeply will get the rest now at least I hope so. Did I ever tell you that I saw Palermo. It was a beautiful city and I thought it would have been destroyed by bombs but only the docks were damaged. A few of the bombs hit uptown. I have a little folder to send home but cannot send it until the censors let it pass. Say have you ever received the negatives yet. I would like to see what they look like but I have seen everything anyway. They told us today that you could send our Christmas packages between September 15th to October 15th and you do not need a request. Just as long as it does not exceed 5 pounds. Measure 15 inches by 36 inches length and girth overall. Don’t send any clothing. But what ever you send be sure it is wrapped good. Anyone that wants to can send them but you are only allowed to send one package a week. Goodbye and I’ll write again soon. Don’t worry.
