June 12, 1945 – Tuesday

A4P100-2-600Had a little work to do today. It’s still raining so I doubt if we play our ball game today. It cleared up but we didn’t play. Wrote a letter home. Sat around and talked till about 9 o’clock and then went over to Lore’s for a while.

Letter Home – June 9, 1945

19450609a-Lscan-600Dear Mother & Dad;

Have a bunch of your letters to answer so being this is Saturday afternoon and we have the afternoon off I’m going to catch up on my letter writing.

Not much to write about around here. I’m going on another picnic tomorrow, that is in if it’s a nice day. I think I told you that we are in the division finals of the Softball championship. We have a pretty good team. Bet pop would enjoy seeing us play.

Know you two don’t expect me home so soon. One thing for sure my fighting days are over, so you won’t have to 19450609b-Lscan-600worry about that anymore. With me being the only one in the supply now it will take me a couple of months to get caught up. But I’ll be home some day, and that’s for sure.

Say mom by the way thank Lavina Everets for the birthday card she sent me. I haven’t the time to write and think her. I’m glad to hear that Don Brown and Jimmy Ayers are okea. I kinda sweated Jimmy Ayers out as I figured he may be dead. That’s the way it goes. I wish I was one of the day lucky ones that was going home right now, but I’ll stay a little longer and be sure of getting I discharge when I get home. I have 120 points now as we were authorized another bronze star. Guess this is all for now, goodbye and I’ll write again soon.

Lots of Love
Your Son

June 9, 1945 – Saturday

A4P106-1-600The old Saturday inspections. We’re in good shape so I doubt if they even come around. Played a tournament ball game and got beat by the 30 Infantry 2 to 1. Surely a tough game to lose. Wrote some letters and went over to Lore’s.

June 8, 1945 – Friday

A4P103-3-600Well, we left this morning by truck while the rest of the company walked out about six miles. We set up the supply and other tents. We had a good inspection and I passed okay. Even got a few compliments on my work. Got home about 3 pm. Had a ball game and I pitched again. We won 6 to 4. Took a bath and went for a walk with Lore.

We didn’t have the inspection today as it rained, but will have it tomorrow. Wrote a couple of letters, went over to Lore’s and played some cards. That’s about all the enjoyment you get these days, but they treat me as if it was home.

Letter Home – June 4, 1945

19450604a-Lscan-600Dear Mother & Dad;

Not much to write about. Just finished a ball game, and we got beat 1 to 0. It was a good game, and as always, we should have won, but we didn’t. The C.O. Was sure mad at us for losing. It just wasn’t in the books for us to win. We are in the division finals, which start this Thursday. Hope we come out okea.

The weather here is sure nice. It’s warm through the day and cool at night. It has been raining quite a bit, but it doesn’t get muddy.

I surely haven’t been writing any letters at all. I bet the 19450604b-Lscan-600people surely think I’m some jerk for not writing. I did pretty good for a while, and now I just write when I feel like it. Most of the time it’s just a letter to you & dad. I haven’t even been writing to Gee.

My girl has been sick so I didn’t go on a picnic Sunday. I work all week and get little enjoyment outside of playing ball. We sure have fun on our picnics. It sure brings back memories of home. Don’t worry too much about me coming home, I’ll make it in about two months. That’s about the time I want to get home anyway. Have dad get his vacation ready, and save up the gas tickets as were going to two were the states from one in to the other, all at my expense. You & dad haven’t been any place so this is one time you’re going to go. For one month, dad so get your vacation all set. By By for now and here some pictures. There not good, but I wanted them home anyway.

Your Son
