Letter Home – July 31, 1944

19440731-Lscan-600Dear Mother & Dad

Not much to write about but I thought I would drop you a line and let you know that I’m Okea. I haven’t seen Paul since the last time I wrote and told you I had seen him. I’m beginning to sweat about my packages getting home. They should be there by now. I would hate to loose all of those presets. I hope dad was careful of my souvenirs. What did you think of Rome after looking at the pictures. It’s quite a place is in it. I’m glad I was able to see it. We had cake again. Seemed to be getting them pretty regular lately. By by and I write when I have time

Your Son,
“Chick”

Letter Home – July 30, 1944

19440729-Lscan-600Dear Mother & Dad

Well I had a letter from John today and he really enjoyed himself down there. He said chicken was still coming out of his in ears. He liked all of you very much he is really a swell fellow himself.

There is little to write about but I thought I had better write while I had the time. Please don’t worry if my letters are a little late but I guess it will have to be that way. I’ll write when I can you both know that. Tell everyone hello for me as I haven’t the time to write to them now.

The weather is sure hot here now, boy is it miserable. The nights are cool so we can at least sleep well. We had American beer and cake the other night. It was sure good. Well I know this is short, but it’s all I have time for. Good bye to you both and I love you very much. I’ll always be thinking of you.

Your Son,
“Chick”

Letter Home – July 25, 1944

19440725-Lscan-600Dear Mother & Dad

Guess I had better get a letter off while I have the time. I’m going to be pretty busy so I’ll have little time to write at all. Keep writing and when I can I’ll write to you. I love you and dad very much you know, and I know you think I should come home. But just think of all the places I’ll miss seeing if I came home now. I have gone this far and might just as well finish. You know you told me once before to look up dad’s father so I will, ha, ha. Please don’t worry about me and say a few prayers extra for me when you have the time. I feel swell now. Thanks for the clipping in the paper. I’m getting to be a popular boy, ha, ha. I’m sorry I have so little to write about, but there is nothing I can say. Goodbye to you both and I love you from the bottom of my heart.

Your Son,
“Chick”

PS I wanted you to spend that money on yourself not on the car or the house

SONY DSCWe are getting more trucks ready to go. When we will leave I don’t know – one of these days though. Heard last night that we were going on a dry run first. Went to a show and then to bed.
