Letter Home – November 8, 1944

19441108-Lscan-600Dear Mother & Dad,

Just think, two years ago today we landed at Fedala, Africa. We were on French soil then and two years later we’re still on it. I hope this damn war soon ends so I can set foot on some good old American soil. Had a letter from Snook, and he is getting along Okea. You probably know more where he is that I do. He said he was getting plenty of mail. Our mail is starting to roll in now. I guess they had other stuff to haul that was more important then mail. So far, I have received five Christmas packages, also received a letter from Ormond, he was on the Normandy front in a replacement depot. By now he should be a reassigned. Well it won’t be long until Christmas. Maybe one of these days we will get a break in I might be able to buy some presents. Not much to write about. I’m Okea, and I hope all of you are the same. By By and I love you both very much.

Your Son,
Chick”

Dear Mother & Dad,

Just a line to let you know I received another Christmas package. This one was full of peanut brittle and cookies. Boy were those cookies good. They were just as fresh as could be. Received a letter from the Conants, they wanted to know how you were both getting along. When the war’s over and I get home, we will have to pay them a visit. It looks like I won’t be able to send any of you a present for Christmas, and I don’t want to spend money, because money doesn’t mean much. I’ll wait and maybe I can find something to buy one of these days. The sun was out for a while, but she didn’t last over a couple of days. Goodbye to you both and I’ll write again soon as I have time. By By

All My Love
Chick”
