March 12, 1945 – Monday

SONY DSCI passed out last night. I have a cold and took some pills for it. It had a little dope in it and in the middle of the night I woke up with a pain in my stomach. Wow, it hurt. I went out to get a drink and then started to get the nurses. The next thing I knew was some fellows were putting me in bed. I went out like a light. I had chills and fever. They piled blankets on me, and by morning I felt better. They kept me in bed today. They have started reconditioning program and so far I missed the first day. I stayed in bed all day.

Letter Home – March 11, 1945

19450311-Lscan-600Dear Mother, Dad & Gee;

Guess I might just as well make this letter to all three of you as I haven’t much to say anyway. I’m just not in the mood to write letters. I’m trying to answer all I have here, and I should get them finished one of these days. The Dr. said I had a couple more weeks in here yet. The way I feel now, I would just as soon go back to duty as two lay around here. Did I ever think all of you for the valentines. If not thanks a million. Boy the food in the hospital is sure lie low sea. They should have better food then they served here. I know because we get better food in that division. This is just a new hospital and they don’t know the ropes over here yet. Well guess this is all for now so I’ll say good-bye.

Lots of Love,
“Chick”

Letter Home – March 8, 1945

19450308-Lscan-600Dear Mother & Dad,

Here I am still in the hospital and I guess I’ll be here a couple of weeks or more. For my part I’d stay here till the war is over. Just think by the time I get out of here I’ll be on my 30th month overseas. Oh well the war can’t last forever. You always say that I should be on my way home. Well mom and dad there are kids in our company that have been overseas 36 and 37 months so they will all go home before it gets to me. Don’t look for me till after the war is over. Don’t worry about me I’ll be Okea. Some of the Fellows from the company was in to see me and brought my mail. I have a stack of letters hear from you and I’ll answer them one of these days. I just can’t get in the mood to write letters. I owe everyone a letter. I’ll get on the ball one of these days. Had a letter from Snook, he’s Okea, but I still haven’t the slightest idea where he is. Well guess I will have to bring this to a close. Bye bye for now and I’ll write again soon.

Your Son
“Chick”
