Letter Home – April 5, 1945

19450405-Lscan-600Dear Mother & Dad;

Just a line to let you know I’m Okea and still trying to get back to the company. This makes the 3rd repo depot that I have been too, but I guess it will be the last one until I go back to the division depot. If I don’t get out soon I’m going to see if I can’t get out and hitch hike back. These repo depots drive a man crazy. As you can see by the top of the letter I’m in Germany. So far I haven’t much to say for it as there is nothing left of the cities. The bombers have certainly ruined them. I entered Germany at about 9:00 o’clock at night and crossed the Rhine river at one o’clock. We had a miserable ride. We did not have a top on our truck, and we had a long ride. It rained part of the way, and most of us had our raincoats in the bottom of our barracks bag. Boy what a night we spent. We got to one depot and they were full up so we had to go on to another one. We got there about 4:30 AM & and had to pitch tents. Well so long for now I’ll write you soon.

Your Son,
“Chick”
