Letter Home – May 17, 1944

19440517a-Lscan-600Dear Mother,

Just got home from a ball game and we won 4 to 1. It was a peach of a game the score was nothing to nothing for fine innings and then in the 6th they got 1 run. Which made the score 1 to 0. In the first of the 7th, the first man got to second on an error and Joe Pryz layed down a perfect bunt to put the runner on third. Then another bunt scored him. That tied the ball game 1 to 1. Then with two men on base and two outs I knocked a long home run. It was pretty lucky but we won the ballgame & I won 5 dollars on it. I have been pretty lucky this month. I started a month with 1 dollar left over from the pay table after paying off my debts and now I have $45 dollars. It’s a good thing we have a good 19440517b-Lscan-600ball team. Snook was over the other night to watch us play and then I took him home. I think if I get my work done tomorrow I will go see him. I have a bunch of letters from you to answer so I’ll write a long letter one of these days. Goodbye, and I love you both very much.

Your Son,
“Chick”
