February 29, 1944 – Tuesday

SONY DSCWe went out to see if we could find a cow this morning. When we got back we got ready to move out as infantry again. Jerry is sure putting on a big counter attack today. Man oh Man but it’s hot. At the present time he is throwing them all around us and I am pretty nervous. Oh well if he gets me he will get me, but I would like to get home. Well its 2 pm and we haven’t moved out as yet. Jerry is still throwing them in and our artillery is throwing them back. Boy did they ever hit our bivouac area. One hit about ten feet from me and put our supply
truck out of commission. We also lost three men and my best boy friend Don Towslee is missing. They brought his truck in and it had been hit by an artillery shell. I surely hope nothing is wrong with him. But I’m afraid to think. His truck was all riddled. They finished off the day by getting five of our trucks. God have they been shelling every thing. I don’t think I can stand much more. We move out as infantry just after dark.
