May 10, 1944 – Wednesday

Had a large air raid last night and it was really a big one. Not much to do any more. Went over to the battalion a few times today. We played “B” Company tonight. I’ll have to make excuses now because we lost 2 to 1 in 2 extra innings. We had two tough breaks and a couple of raw deals called by their umpires. Also four of our players had to go out and work in a mine field. It was a tough one to lose but it couldn’t be helped. Played cards, wrote a couple of letters, had a big mail call. I received 12 letters and 3 boxes of candy from home. Plenty of candy now.
